Game Stream: Chicago Bulls Vs. Toronto Raptors

Chauncey Billups turned to a lineup to close out the Portland Trail Blazers’ win Monday over Toronto that he thought matched up best against the Raptors’ goal of playing small and fast.

The result was a 118-113 win with Nassir Little and Larry Nance Jr. playing the entire fourth quarter while power forward Robert Covington and center Jusuf Nurkic didn’t play at all in the final quarter.

It’s altogether possible that a similar lineup might be best for Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls (10-4) at the Moda Center.

The Bulls are without starting center, Nikola Vucevic (health and safety protocols) and starting power forward, Patrick Williams (broken wrist).

In recent games, the Bulls have gone with the 6-foot-4 Alex Caruso at small forward and the 6-6 DeMar DeRozan at power forward. They still have a big in the middle, 6-10 Tony Bradley. But in the fourth quarter, the Bulls often turn to the 6-4 Javonte Green in a five-man lineup with Caruso, DeRozan, the 6-5 Zach LaVine and the 6-6 Lonzo Ball.

LaVine is the most dynamic shooting guard the Blazers will have faced this season. Phoenix’s Devin Booker is certainly an elite talent but he isn’t as athletic as LaVine, who will be a tough matchup for Portland shooting guard CJ McCollum. The best chance the Blazers might have to slow down LaVine would be to send the 6-5 Little after him.

The 6-2 Lillard will likely be hounded by Ball, who has a 100 defensive rating.

On the flip side of this, Bradley should be no challenge for Nurkic. Bradley doesn’t have the offensive skills to force Nurkic to work extensively on defense and will give up about 45 pounds to the Blazers center. If Nurkic is due for a big game, this should be the night.

The Blazers (7-8) are 6-1 at home this season. The Bulls are 5-2 on the road with recent wins at the LA Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.
